Any potato dish was accepted for Best Tasting. For the Mark Watney category, contestants were required to present dishes with only five ingredients including potatoes, that used common household kitchen staples. Contestants who competed in the Most Surprising category offered dishes that used potatoes in a nonconventional way. For example, one contestant brought cinnamon rolls made with potatoes.
