World class actors paired with well-known catchy songs and a story that makes you laugh hysterically can’t go wrong, especially not if you add a scenic Mediterranean island. MAMMA MIA — THE MOVIE is set to be a worldwide success, just like the Broadway musical, which has been seen by more than 30 million people. Yes, the plot is shallow and the songs sometimes feel totally out of the blue, but all of that is unimportant, because the musical manages to convey a feeling of utter joy to most of the people in the audience. It makes us accept the lead character weird actions, and the ABBA songs used in ways we would never have dreamt of. Basically the movie is about powerful women, celebrating their deep relations. The mother Donna (Meryl Streep) has raised her daughter by herself while owning and managing a hotel on a Greek island. Her daughter Sophie (Amanda Seyfried), is to marry but desperately wants to find out who her father is, and the mother’s two best friends (Julie Walters and Christine Baranski), cheer her up and remind her to not take life too seriously.
