Recently, Bellevue College’s baseball athlete Jordan Richartz was featured on the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges’ website for earning the highest batting average. At .462, Richartz came out on top amongst fellow hitters at the NWAACC recently. “I feel pretty good about being one of the top hitters in the league, but it really does not phase me right now because we still have a long season ahead of us. I have high expectations for myself this season because of how hard I have worked to get to the point I am at right now,” commented Richartz.Richartz graduated from Mercer Island High School and is currently a sophomore at BC. This is also his second year playing for the Bulldogs. Richartz started playing baseball at the age of six. Richartz said, “I always loved it growing up, but once I started traveling and playing competitively was when it became my true love.” According to Richartz, one of the most memorable games that he played was beating Lower Columbia twice in the season opener. This was memorable remembering Lower Columbia bumped BC Bulldogs out of the NWAACC tournament last year. The team is joined by 20 incoming freshmen since many graduated and transfer to four-year universities. “It allows me set examples and brush off some of my personal knowledge on my new teammates,” added Richartz. The team’sseason just started last March and they are looking forward for a good season and hopefully came out as the champion at the NWAACC Championships.
“When I am not playing baseball I am usually hanging out with old high school friends or my teammates. I do spend a lot of time training on my own time to prepare myself for the next level of baseball,” said Richartz. According to Richartz, his favorite pro baseball team is Seattle Mariners because he has a lot of love for his hometown, Seattle.
The next game for the team is Saturday, April 20 against Everett Community College at 1 p.m. at Everett Memorial Stadium.
