Books, tuition, fees… the woes of every college student can be wiped away for recipients of a Bellevue College Foundation scholarship. The BC Foundation has just opened up registration for nine different scholarships that would take effect for Winter and Spring quarter.

The goal of the BC Foundation is to ensure that everyone can go to school; these scholarships are one of the ways that they reach that goal. There are nine possible scholarships, each addressing a different demographic.

The Swegle Family Scholarship is available to full-time students at BC who are engaged in leadership, either at the college or within their community. To receive this scholarship a student must have a GPA of 3.0 and demonstrate financial need.

The Jack Perry Scholarship is limited to those enrolled in the IT program at BC. A student must have a 3.0 GPA and financial need to receive this scholarship.

Similar to the Jack Perry Scholarship, the Nancy Bean Costco IT Scholarship also appeals to those in the IT program only; however, this scholarship is even more specific, as it can only be given to single parents. This scholarship is for up to $3000, depending on need.

The TikaEsler Scholarship appeals to the Latino culture group – to receive this $500 scholarship, a student of Hispanic heritage must be enrolled full-time at BC, be working towards his or her undergraduate, and have a GPA of at least 2.5.

For cardiac students in the Diagnostic Ultrasound program, the Miles Matsuda Memorial Scholarship is an option. This scholarship will grant up $1000 to a student preparing for their final quarter at BC in this field.

Those enrolled in or accepted by the nursing school have the option of the Oskoui Family Scholarship for Nurses. This scholarship requires a recommendation, a minimum GPA of 2.8, and an interview for finalists. Single parents will be given preference for this scholarship.

Finally, there are two scholarship options for those enrolled in Interior Design. The Walter Baz Interior Design Scholarship is available to students with over 80 credits in Interior Design who have maintained a 2.8 GPA. For this scholarship, students must provide two letters of recommendation and an official transcript. The other interior design scholarship is the Charlotte Field Interior Design Scholarship, which is available to students with at least 45 college credits and a 2.5 GPA. Only one letter of recommendation is required, and this scholarship will cover tuition, fees and books.

When turning in a transcript, anyone applying for scholarships like these ones should bear in mind that it takes several days for a transcript to process, so this should be done earlier than the actual due date of the application.

A scholarship granted in Fall will take effect in both Winter and Spring quarters. Spring Quarter scholarships will cover the entirety of the next year.

These scholarships are made available by the BC Foundation, a non-profit organization whose mission is to raise funds that enable everyone to go to school. In order to provide these scholarships, they fundraise, advertise and take donations.

The scholarships and more information about the BC Foundation are available online at http://bellevuecollege.edu/foundation/scholarships/. The deadline for these scholarships is November 3 at noon. The scholarships can be turned in to A101, the Foundation office.
