Very few community colleges across the country offer invaluable study abroad experiences. Luckily, that is not the case for Bellevue College. BC has a myriad of travel options for students to choose from.

The majority of the programs are a semester long and students have the freedom to select courses of their choice from a list of preselected courses for a total of 15 credits. Destinations are located in many different, versatile countries including, South Africa, Ecuador, Spain, Japan, and many more. The best part is that BC students can meet and network with other community college students from around Washington State. Srudents will also be able to learn from a variety of professors from different institutes who will accompany the students on the trip.

For a month this summer, a few BC students, as well as other students from the different colleges in the Washington Community College Consortium for Study Abroad (WCCCSA), will be able to study abroad in the beautiful, vivid city of Alajuela which is located in the heart of Costa Rica.

On this trip, students will be able to advance their Spanish skills by attending daily language classes, interacting with the residents in the city, and living with prescreened host families. To be a part of this magical trip, students must submit a nonrefundable $250 deposit by no later than April 20.

Moreover, this Fall BC will be sending a couple of students to the exciting city of Cape Town in South Africa. According to WCCCSA, “Cape Town is famous not only for hosting the World Cup, but for it’s fascinating history, vibrant culture, colorful fishing villages, pearly white beaches, penguin colonies, game preserves, and much more.”

Participating students will be able to enjoy daily activities, classes, and spending time in front of the gorgeous beachs and harbor. Not only that, but prior to landing in Cape Town, students will stay one night in London, England–allowing students to see and explore both Europe and Africa!

Additionally, students on the trip will have the option to volunteer a couple of times per week. The last day to sign up for this trip is June 24.

BC’s study abroad programs are open to students who are at least 17 years old, have a GPA of  2.5 or higher, and must have a completed at least 12 credits at Bellevue College. Eligible students will need to turn in the WCCCSA preliminary application and arrange to meet with Bellevue College Campus Coordinator Carol McKee for an informational interview.
