Coming off of the most dominant season in Seahawks history, it was obvious to Seahawks fans that Pete Carroll was the coach for this team. That fact was reassured when the Seahawks decided to extend his contract as the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks by three years. Pete is hot after having two straight playoff seasons including a Super Bowl victory in the most recent year.
This kind of signing is probably the most best move the Seahawks could have made this off-season. Pete Carroll has developed a certain atmosphere around this team that can not be duplicated by any other coach. The vibe and connection that he brings to this football team is something that very few coaches can ever hope to achieve.
With the free agent market including big name signings like CB Darrell Revis to the Patriots, former Seahawks WR Golden Tate to the Lions, DE Julius Peppers to the Packers, etc., I think that the most significant person signed by the Seahawks will never play a down of football.
Carroll’s coaching style is something that makes players want to play for him. He is a friend to his players and a great motivator in exchange for his players giving their all in practice and in games. His coaching philosophy has led the Seahawks to two post-season appearances in the last two seasons, with the crown jewel being the 2013- 2014 Lombardi Trophy.
Pete has had a lot of luck in getting skilled players in late rounds of the draft. The perfect example of this is CB Richard Sherman. Sherman was drafted in a late round and has since become the best cornerback in the NFL. Other players that follow this model are QB Russell Wilson and WR Jermaine Kearse. Carroll has a knack for taking players that have been overlooked and showing their true potential. He and GM John Schneider are masters at finding diamonds in the rough.
The Pete Carroll era of the Seattle Seahawks is just getting started. Carroll has done an enormous amount for the city of Seattle and its football team, and he plans on continuing his hot streak for years to come. With three more years added onto the one year he had on his previous contract, fans can be assured that Pete is staying right where he belongs, as the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks.
