BCC men’s basketball season kicks off this Friday. Coach Jeremy Eggers said they should be good enough to make it to the tournament.
The team has a whole new offensive side this year, and they still have yet to work out the kinks, said Eggers.
“[It will] take us awhile to hit our stride. By January [or] February though, when it really counts, we’ll be playing our best.”
The four team captains, Curron Singleton, Sam Cartnell, Blake Pankow and Rahiti Marere have all said this is very exciting.
Eggers said Peninsula, Whatcom and the NWAACC teams Yakama, Highline, and Tacoma should prove to be challenging competition. He hopes the team will win the division, and get to the NWAACC tournament. The basketball team has took second last year, and held first for three years prior to that.
Singleton said he’s very excited, the season will be great fun. “We’re going to figure out who we are, what we’re good at, and what we need to work on.”
He said that his very own team will be its toughest opponent.
Cartnell said they are hoping for a good year, and to make it to finals. BCC team is slightly undersized in comparison to the competition, Cartnell hopes freshmen will come in and even them out.
Pankow said he and his teammates are working very hard at practice, and the season should go great. He believes they will get better every game, and improve from their performance last year.
Marere said that if they work hard and stay together they should be successful. He’s excited for the season to start, and will work hard as a team player, doing whatever it takes to win. There are a lot of good guys on the team, everyone’s interchangeable, no specialized player on board.
“Hopefully everyone comes to the games,” said Pankow.
