This year, the Bellevue College Foundation has awarded a total of 71 scholarships for students. The scholarships awarded varied in requirements including eligibility, amount of money awarded and source of fund. The funds raised for the scholarships came from both the Bellevue College Foundation as well as the different departments at college. The total amount of money given for this year’s scholarships applicants is approximately $200,000.
The Bellevue College Foundation Scholarship opens its application annually. Scholarships are open for all Bellevue College students. In 2013, the application of BC Foundation Scholarship will open on Jan.15.
Foundation Business Manager at the Bellevue College Foundation, Susan Kingsbury-Comeau said that funds awarded for scholarships applicants are being raised year round. According to Kingsbury-Comeau, scholarships that are awarded each year are a combination of need and merit-based.
Students who are interested in applying for the BC Foundation Scholarship next year are able to go to the Scholarship Foundation’s website at http://bellevuecollege.edu/foundation/scholarships/. The website provides information about the important dates students have to keep in mind, eligibility requirements, as well as guidelines for students. The new online system is able to help students walk through the whole application process.
The Scholarship Foundation’s website also provides last year’s scholarship guidebook to give students a picture and example of the types of scholarships offered and eligibility requirements. The BC Foundation works very closely with departments such as the Center for Career Connections, Multicultural Services and the Disability Resource Center to assists students with their applications.
Kingsbury-Comeau reminded students who are going to apply for need-based scholarships to apply for Free Application for Federal Student Aid. The BC Foundation Scholarship also has a new online system that better serves students throughout the application process and which positions the foundation to handle more scholarships.
For the 2012-2013 BC Foundation Scholarship recipients, the BC Foundation is going to hold its Donor Scholar reception on Nov. 7, 2012. The event will allow scholarship recipients to meet with the donors and board members, and celebrate the achievement of the students. All BC Foundation scholarships are to be used at BC only and can be applied to tuition, fees and in some cases, books.
The BC Foundation Scholarship Committee determines scholarship recipients. Each year, more than 200 applicants apply for BC Foundation Scholarships. “All of the scholarships applicants are winners in my mind. They are well on the road to achieving their educational dreams. The Bellevue College Foundation would be very happy if it had enough scholarships funding to award each and every applicant. We hope to be able to do that in the future,” said Kingsbury-Comeau.
