Kasey Keller has ended his regular season career on Saturday, October 15 against the San Jose Earthquakes. I was fortunate to be able to attend that great night to honor one of the best goalkeepers America has ever produced. Keller put on quite the show that night. He had a spectacular save which involved him blocking four consecutive shots that were taken by San Jose in a series of rapid fire shots. The atmosphere that was present that night was marvelous. There were over 65,000 people at Century Link Field. The crowd was supporting their Sounders like never before to ensure that they gave Kasey Keller a spectacular end of a career. The Sounders got down midway through the game, which had me worried that they were not going to give Keller a win in his final regular season game. But you know the Sounders; they find a way to pull it out late into the game. In the end the Sounders came away with a 2-1 victory over San Jose. Montero scored the winning goal for the Seattle Sounders as Keller rode off into the sunset. Okay, not really. Keller even said it himself: “It’s not over.” Meaning the Sounders still have a tough post season to go. It was good to see the Sounders captain (Keller) still having the focus to realize the journey is not over. How sweet would it be if the Sounders win it all this year and do it all in the name of Mr. Keller? After the game they had a ceremony honoring Kasey Keller for what he has done for the organization. The Majority owner of the Sounders honored Kasey with the golden scarf. He also received an ATV from the team, which Drew Carey drove out to the field, and a dirt bike to go along with it. The presentation was awesome, and made you feel that Kasey received the goodbye and thank-you that he deserved. Kasey, who was one of the Seattle Sounders’ top priority signees when first coming into the league three years ago, shined in the Emerald City, and without him the Sounders would not be who they are today. Thank You, Kasey, for everything you have done to make our Sounders who they are. You will truly be missed in goal. Like you said yourself, it is not over. We still have the playoffs. Let’s win it all for Kasey Keller and our great city.
