Every year, new and experienced game developers alike come together and work to make a brand-new video game. The catch? They have only 48 hours to accomplish this. This kind of event is known as a game jam. As someone who has participated in a game jam several times before, they are incredibly fun and amazing learning experiences. No matter how the end product turns out, it’s a very rewarding challenge, and working with a team makes it even better.

If you’ve ever thought it would be fun to get into game development, whether as an artist, music producer, programmer, or all of the above, this is the opportunity for you! Bellevue College’s Global Game Jam site will open the event’s Discord server at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 28. There, you can get into a team with your friends or other new game developers, and there will be a multitude of resources and workshops offered to get you started. These workshops include courses on how to use the game engines Unity and Unreal, as well as crash courses in the Maya 3D modeling software and more.

Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned game developer, this is a great opportunity to delve further into the field. Attendees must be at least 18 years of age, although if you are a Running Start Bellevue College student, you’re also welcome to attend the event. If you have any questions, feel free to email renee.nejo@bellevuecollege.edu. To sign up, check out the official Global Game Jam website!
